Italia: A Global Experience in Art

Taking International Design to a Whole New Level

Alsons Screen "A well rounded education demands a trip to a different country," they tell you. So, I went to Italy. I spent a summer in Viareggio — a small town in northern Italy. During the day I worked with local artists to design and create large scale floats and puppetry. These enormous 3–D pieces displayed the local culture through tales, spiritual beliefs, and political satire.

The annual Carnival portrayed their cultural values and current issues through a creative medium of puppetry to reach the thousands of gatherers. This artistic way to market commonalities between individuals further inspired me to a career path that reaches out to people through art and design.

On weekends, I travelled to nearby towns and cities such as Florence, Pisa, and Cinque Terre with my group, and experienced local cuisine, history, and markets.
